9/20/08 Flyers training camp and meet the Flyers Current mood:  ecstatic Category: Sports Shout outs to Erica, Sandy, Amanda, 23, Liz, Jessica, Theresa, Donna, Matt, Mike, Jeremy, Roseann, Joyce, Bill, Eric, Joe, Lou, and anyone else I saw and talked to there were so many today. Special Thanks to Karen and Brooke for my antics during meet the Flyers Today was very very crowded and it was handled very well.  The Flyers staff was ultra prepared and I felt this was probably the smoothest run day yet http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/2873367583/in/set-72157607401254273/ Team Snider beat Team barber First goal was by the line of Giroux. Kalinski and Downie.  Those three had some real chemistry.  Briere and Richards combined for 2 goals in the 4 on 4. While Team Snider won and had good offensive pressure the on ice between the two team was way more even then the score reflects. This was probably the smoothest part.  Everyone in and sitting in 30 minutes.  There was a huge audience and the Players were very accomodating.  Poor Scottie Upshall was accosted by a women who ran and sat on his lap and did the self picture with Scottie thing.  All the players doing interviews in the back parts got mobbed for autographs before segments would start.  I felt bad for them cause that really was not the time or place to request those. It was well done and all the players were very positive. I am going to camp again tomorrow when the Flyers return from Canada and will be attending the Phantoms preseason game at the NE Skate Zone on Saturday. 9/26/08 Phantoms/Flyers practice Category: Sports First we had the Phantoms.  First thing I notice here is none of the D are in black like for the Flyers.  D men are wearing Red and Green.  Forwards wore either White or Orange. Most of the practices earlier in the week were run by Kjell and Neil.  today’s was run directly by Paddock. Aubin was very unhappy when Riley Cote scored a really pretty goal on him. BIG THANK YOUS TO Zack Hill for being very awesome. Scottie Upshall, Scott Hartnell, JS Aubin, Glen Metropolit, Aaron Asham, Steve Eminger, Jeff Carter, Riley Cote, and Randy Jones for stopping to sign autographs and interact with the very large group awaiting you. We were given special tickets and posters on our way in. I decided for this game that I was going to try and be as neutral as possible.  Root for both teams or root for neither since I follow both teams with some passion.  I decided that I was going to sit between the benches for warmups.  I like the section but not for games as it is really really hard to get in and out of this section especially at extra crowded times IE warmups. I checked the Phantoms website their practice starts 30 min sooner then the Flyers bonus. Arriving at the skatezone there are a ton of Flyers employees there.  This is not a a normal thing unless it is Meet the Flyers segment of Training camp.  They seem to be getting set up for something. Go in watch little kids practicing on the Phantoms side and wait for the Phantoms.  I stand where I can see straight across to the Flyers rink to know when the Flyers are out and time to move over.  Kids run all the way til 10 Zamboni comes out and seems to be going uber slow. The zamboni barely made the first lap when the Phantoms started coming out and hanging on the bench. As more came out they skated from the Zamboni door and were quite loose for their game day skate.    Lots of small shenanigans.  Very fun to watch thus no pictures. I know quite a few of my crew were complaining about the afternoon game yesterday but sometimes it is nice to see the afternoon tilt. Not a good hockey weekend in Philadelphia Category: Sports Neither the Flyers nor the Phantoms had much success this weekend.  Both teams lost Friday and Saturday.  Saturday looked like both games might end by the same score but The Admirals seemed to turn and burn and the Phantoms ended up loosing 7-2. I have faith that both teams will turn things around.  Both teams have injuries to key players and the flu making rounds. Phantoms have their leading forward, Claude Giroux called up to help the Flyers and David LaLiberte and Nate Guenin both injured.
